The Education Committee is composed of the Pastor, two members appointed by him and five elected members. The Principal is not a member of the committee, but attends most meetings in an advisory role. The PEC is responsible for assisting the Pastor in developing educational policies, preparing budgets, exercising fiscal responsibility, hiring teachers, and for the overall operation of school.
As well, working together with the Principal, they will ensure that the academic and spiritual climate of the school reflect the principles outlined in the Education Committee Policy and the CISVA policy manual. Meetings are open to parents except for “in-camera” sessions. Requests by non-members to speak at meetings must be made in writing and received seven days in advance. The written request must state the subject matter the non-member wishes to discuss.

Parents are an integral part of the school community in Powell River. We provide the leadership needed to organize activities such as fundraisers, social events, and community building programs. The PTA is a formal organization composed of parents, teachers, and staff that is intended to facilitate parental participation in the school. We act under the guidance and support of the PEC.
Anyone who is a parent or guardian of a student at Assumption School is a member of the PTA and is welcome at all meetings. Parents are encouraged to take part in all activities in the school. Volunteer opportunities are plenty as well as in-class support throughout your child’s educational career. Meetings are held once a month at the school. The PTA is parent organized and managed. All executive members volunteer themselves and are elected if more than one parent expresses interest.
We organize fundraisers like movie nights, hot lunches, pull tab sales at BINGO, poinsettia sales, spring gift basket sales, and many more. We support students’ education and faith to maximize learning opportunities for individual and school growth. The money we raise provides financial support for school programs, equipment needs (larger items include our school playground) and recreational activities like Fun Day.
The parents at Assumption School are hard-working people committee to helping our school be successful. We maintain that our kids are worth it and we invite all parents to become involved in this worthwhile committee.
